    SP Singh Baghel was born in 1960 in Bhatpura, Umri, Etawah district, Uttar Pradesh. He was born in a Dhangar (shepherd) family. Currently he is a Lok Sabha member from Agra, which is reserved for Scheduled Castes. His father was Rambharose Singh and mother was Ramshree Devi. Baghel married on 30 November 1989 and has two children. Baghel holds a bachelor's degree in law, a master's degree in science and a doctoral degree. He studied at Maharaja Jiwaji Rao University in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh and Meerut University in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.

    Satyapal Singh Baghel, who was earlier a sub inspector in UP Police, was involved in the security of Mulayam Singh Yadav after he became the Chief Minister in 1989. His fearlessness, hard work and honesty also won the heart of Mulayam Singh Yadav and he was fielded for Lok Sabha from Jalesar as a Samajwadi Party candidate. In 1998, he became an MLA for the first time and was also a minister in the Mulayam Singh government. Earlier he was a member of Samajwadi Party and was a candidate in Lok Sabha elections thrice and once in Rajya Sabha elections.

  • History of Agra Lok Sabha

    From 1952 to 1971, Indian National Congress leader Achal Singh won five Lok Sabha elections in this constituency, but his reputation declined after the Emergency. In 1977, Shambhu Nath Chaturvedi of Bharatiya Lok Dal held the seat. Then in 1980, Nihal Singh from Bharatiya Lok Dal won from here, but joined Congress in 1984. In 1989, Ajay Singh of Janata Dal wrested this seat from Congress.

    In 1991, 1996, and 1998, the BJP won here each time, taking Lord Shankar Rawat to the Lok Sabha three times. In 1999 and 2004, the Samajwadi Party held the seat, when Raj Babbar represented it. Then, in 2009, BJP's Ramshankar Katheria won and was victorious from here in 2014 as well.

    In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Bahujan Samaj Party candidate Narayan Singh Suman stood second here. Whereas SP candidate Maharaj Singh Dhanga stood third here by getting 1,34,708 votes.

    Filmmaker and leader Raj Babbar has great importance in the political environment of this seat. In 2014, BJP's Dalit leader Ramshankar Katheria defeated the Bahujan Samaj Party candidate. There was an alliance of SP and BSP in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. This alliance had secured 38.01 percent votes.
