Out of 80 parliamentary constituencies of Uttar Pradesh, Mainpuri parliamentary constituency is currently under the control of Samajwadi Party. Samajwadi leader Dimple Yadav represents the Samajwadi Party in the Mainpuri parliamentary constituency in the Lok Sabha. He is counted in the category of young MPs from political families.

Talking about the caste equations of this seat, it is a Yadav voter dominated seat, whose total population is above 6 lakhs which is more than 35 percent of the total voters. The second largest population here is of Shakyas who have more than 2 lakh 50 thousand voters here. There is also a significant number of voters from Kshatriya, Brahmin, Jat, Gujar, Saini and Dalit castes. Muslim population is also dense here. If we look at the Election Commission's 2014 data, there are a total of more than 16 lakh voters in this seat, out of which more than 9 lakh are men and more than 7 lakh are women.

History of Mainpuri Lok Sabha(Mainpuri Loksabha History)

This parliamentary constituency has been in existence since 1952, when the first Lok Sabha elections were held in the country and when elections were held here for the first time in 1952, Indian National Congress candidate Badshah Gupta reached the Lok Sabha from here. After some interval, he was elected on Congress ticket in 1962 also. In the 16 Lok Sabha elections and 3 by-elections held so far, political parties of socialist origin have won the elections from here maximum 13 times (including 2 by-elections) and Congress 6 times (including 1 by-election). Samajwadi Yuvraj Tej Pratap Singh Yadav has won from here in the Lok Sabha by-election held in the year 2014.

This parliamentary constituency is also important in the sense that former UP Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav has won elections from here in 1996 and 2009. Although he had won elections from here in 2004 and 2014 also, but later resigned and left this seat. The special thing is that in the 2004 by-election, his great grandson Dharmendra Yadav and in 2014 his second great grandson Tej Pratap Singh Yadav won the election from here on the ticket of their own party.

Congress leader Maharaj Singh won in 1967 and 1971, Praja Socialist Party leader Banshi Das Dhangar in 1957, Socialist leader Raghunath Singh Verma won from Bharatiya Lok Dal in 1977 and Janata Party Secular won here in 1980 and reached the Lok Sabha.

Congress leader Chaudhary Baliram Singh Yadav reached Lok Sabha from here in 1984. Later, he joined Samajwadi Party and reached Lok Sabha in 1998 and 1999 also. Janata Dal leader Uday Pratap Singh represented here in 1989. He then joined the Samajwadi Janata Party and reached the Lok Sabha for the second consecutive time in 1991.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha by-election, Samajwadi Party candidate Tej Pratap Singh Yadav defeated Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Prem Singh Shakya.

After delimitation in 2008, the nature of this parliamentary seat changed. Now 5 assembly constituencies come under this Lok Sabha seat. They are Mainpuri, Bhogaon, Kishni, Karhal and Jaswantnagar. The special thing is that out of all these 5 assembly seats, 4 are occupied by Samajwadi Party and 1 by Bharatiya Janata Party. BJP is in control of only Bhogaon seat. Although the Bharatiya Janata Party rules the Center and UP, the Grand Alliance is stronger than expected here, because the past has also been in its favor. Now, it will be important to see how BJP will win this sitting seat of SP.

The contest on this seat will mainly be between the Samajwadi Party alliance and the BJP alliance. Which Congress can convert into a triangular contest. In the 2014 Lok Sabha by-election, BJP candidate Prem Singh Shakya stood second, while RSMD candidate AK Shakya stood third by getting 5,587 votes.

Mainpuri is considered the stronghold of SP. Mulayam Singh Yadav had won this seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. However, after the death of Mulayam Singh, in the by-election held in December 2022, his daughter-in-law Dimple Yadav won with a landslide victory by 2.88 lakh votes. Dimple Yadav got 6,18,120 votes. Whereas BJP's Raghuraj Singh Shakya had secured 3,29,659 votes.
