The encounter between Akshay Shinde and the police took place when he was being taken from Taloja jail to Thane for treatment.

Assistant Police Inspector Nilesh More was injured in this firing. Police Inspector Sanjay Shinde fired the last shot, in which he got injured. He died in the hospital.

Post-mortem report
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Monday night that a high-level inquiry has been ordered into the cause of Shinde's death. A senior Thane police officer said that Shinde's body was taken from Thane's Kalwa Civic Hospital to the government JJ Hospital in neighbouring Mumbai for post-mortem on Tuesday morning. He said that the post-mortem of the body is being done at JJ Hospital. The post-mortem report will also come soon.
