  • Aligarh Lok Sabha Introduction

Aligarh Loksabha: Out of 80 parliamentary constituencies of Uttar Pradesh, Aligarh parliamentary constituency is currently under the control of BJP. Veteran BJP leader Satish Gautam represents Aligarh parliamentary constituency in the Lok Sabha. He is counted among the MPs dedicated and vocal towards the Hindu agenda of RSS-BJP. If we look at the figures of 2014, there are a total of 17,93,126 voters in this seat, out of which 9 lakh 65 thousand are male and about 8 lakh are female.

  • Political History of Aligarh Lok Sabha

This parliamentary constituency is in existence since 1952. When general elections were held here for the first time, in 1952 and 1957, the candidate of the Indian Congress Party had won this seat by a large margin. However, after that, in 1967 and 19721, Bharatiya Kranti Dal and in 1977 and 1980, Janata Party and Janata Party Secular were in power here. In 1984, Congress again managed to win here, but in 1989, Janata Dal leader Satyapal Malik again uprooted its political base and took control of the place himself.

This parliamentary constituency is also important in the sense that flamboyant socialist leader Satyapal Malik has represented it. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, BJP candidate Satish Gautam defeated Bahujan Samaj Party candidate Arvind Kumar Singh.

After delimitation in 2008, the nature of this parliamentary seat changed.

Now 5 assembly constituencies come under this Lok Sabha seat. They are- Khair, Barauli, Atrauli, Kol and Aligarh.

The special thing is that all these 5 assembly seats are held by the Bharatiya Janata Party. Due to which the path of grand alliance is not easy here because Bharatiya Janata Party is ruling Uttar Pradesh.

If we talk about the caste equations of this seat, it is dominated by voters of Jat, Muslim and Lodh castes. There are three lakh Muslims, two lakh Jats and about two lakh Lodh voters here. The number of Rajput, Brahmin and other upper caste voters is approximately 3 lakh more. Other voters are from backward castes like Dalits and Saini-Gurjars. If we look at the Election Commission's 2014 data, there are a total of 17,93,126 voters in this seat, out of which 9 lakh 65 thousand are men and about 8 lakh are women.

Aligarh Loksabha:  The contest on this seat is mainly between BJP and Samajwadi Party-Bahujan Samaj Party-RLD. Sometimes Congress turns it into a triangular conflict.

In this Lok Sabha constituency, 79 percent population is Hindu and 19 percent population is Muslim.
