Lucknow Loksabha Political History
Lucknow Lok Sabha constituency is a Lok Sabha (parliamentary) constituency of Uttar Pradesh located in the state of Uttar Pradesh in northern India. It is one of the two Lok Sabha constituencies located in the state's largest and capital city, Lucknow.
This seat has been with the Bharatiya Janata Party since 1991. Its most famous MP is the former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Vajpayee contested elections from this seat eight times. For the first time, he contested the 1955 by-election and came third. Then he came second in 1957 and 1962. After these 3 defeats, he won the seat five consecutive times, in 1991, 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2004.
The contest on this seat has mainly been between Congress versus Samajwadi Party, and now BJP versus Congress.
Talking about the caste equations of this seat, there are 77 percent Hindu and 21 percent Muslim voters here. There are 9.61 percent Dalit and 0.02 percent tribal voters here. Among Hindus, Brahmin and Vaishya classes dominate here. There are 10 percent Kayastha voters here, which also includes 4 percent Sindhi voters. It is not clear here whether the mobilization of Muslim, OBC and Dalit voters will be in favor of Congress or the SP-BSP alliance, but it is certain that BJP will also get some of them. If we look at the Election Commission's 2014 data, there are a total of 19 lakh 49 thousand 596 voters in this seat, out of which more than 10 lakh are men and about 9 lakh are women.
The voters of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, have tarnished the shine of the biggest stalwarts in the Lok Sabha elections. It is said that politics ends for the leaders who lose the elections from Lucknow. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, actor Shatrughan Sinha's wife Poonam Sinha had contested from SP against the country's Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. But Poonam Sinha suffered a crushing defeat from BJP candidate Rajnath Singh by 3,40,000 votes.
