Why is there no Space for Childhood in the Magazine?
Reading today's magazines, it seems as if childhood has been left behind. Every page, every column, every topic—everything is lost in the world of adults. Fashion, fitness, career, gadgets, politics, relationships—issues related to childhood are buried in the crowd. The question is, why is there less space for childhood in magazines? Business pressure on marketing The main target audience of magazines is adults because they can afford to buy.
Even in terms of advertising, children's issues receive little priority. As a result, stories based on the needs, difficulties or joys of childhood do not make space. Childhood 'out of trend' in a fast-paced world Today's social mindset is fast, sharp and competitive. Magazines also reflect this same race. The innocence of childhood, games, stories, experiences are ignored as 'slow content'. Overdose of adult concerns Magazines are filled with the worries of today's adults—stress, career pressure, relationships, health, global issues. Under this weight, the fragrance of childhood is lost. As if childhood stories are not considered important. Digital has taken over the world of children. Content for children has now shifted to YouTube, apps or animated platforms.
Magazines have assumed that the generation of children does not open the pages of paper. Due to this misconception, they have reduced content for children. Childhood topics are not considered 'serious' Magazines have the illusion that the various topics related to children are not serious—such as psychology, child safety, creativity, games, and stories. But in reality, these are the ones that shape the future of society. But childhood absence is a silent threat. When childhood disappears from magazines, we forget the questions of the generation that will form tomorrow's society. Their psychological needs, security, creativity, learning capacity—all begin to disappear in media consumption. What needs to be changed?
✔ Magazines will reconnect with childhood Children's stories, science corner, psychology, and parenting also received priority.
✔ Value innocence and creativity Childhood is not just about chocolates, cartoons and toys. It is a ritual, a picture of the future.
✔ Childhood must be considered an 'important' subject The media has a responsibility to accept even the youngest voices of society. Finally… The lack of space for childhood in magazines is not just an editorial decision—it is a sign of a social trend. Where we are caught up in our own worries, leaving behind the sparkle of the future. If the media won't talk about childhood, when will society understand the importance of that innocent age?
