IAS Abhisek Sharma Biography:  Abhishek Sharma, a 2018 batch IAS officer of the Chhattisgarh cadre, hails from a small village in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir. Born on November 19, 1993, Abhishek’s journey to becoming an IAS officer is an inspiring story of perseverance and determination.

Early Life and Education

Abhishek completed his schooling in a Hindi medium government school in Jammu, where he excelled academically, scoring 90.2% in class 10th and 93.3% in class 12th. Following his high school success, he cleared several competitive exams, including AIEEE, Jammu Kashmir Common Engineering Test (JKCET), GATE, and JKSSB. In 2014, he graduated from GCET Jammu with 76% marks.

Inspiration and Preparation for IAS

Abhishek’s mother worked as a clerk in the SDM office, and his visits there exposed him to the workings of the administrative offices. Observing the SDM and other officers, and listening to his mother’s experiences, fueled his ambition to become an IAS officer, a dream his mother also cherished him.

After graduation, Abhishek moved to Delhi for UPSC coaching. However, after three months, he returned to his village in Kishtwar to continue his preparations. The remote location and harsh winters, which often cut off his village from essential resources like electricity and newspapers, posed significant challenges. Despite these obstacles, Abhishek remained determined.

Attempts and Success

In his first UPSC attempt, Abhishek cleared the preliminary and main exams through self-study but failed in the interview due to his weak English. He improved his English skills by reading newspapers and attempted the exam again in Hindi medium the second time, though he did not succeed. In his third attempt, overcoming all hurdles, Abhishek secured the 69th rank and achieved his goal of becoming an IAS officer.

Professional Career

Abhishek Sharma officially joined the IAS on August 27, 2018. After completing his training at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, he was appointed Assistant Collector for field training in Korba district, Chhattisgarh. He later served as the SDM in the Katghora subdivision of the Korba district.

Following the abrogation of Article 370, a one-time deputation scheme was introduced to address the shortage of IAS officers in Jammu and Kashmir. Under this policy, IAS officers with three years of service could be deputed to Jammu and Kashmir for three years. Abhishek Sharma took this opportunity and currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the e-governance agency in Jammu and Kashmir.
