According to the IMD, “Cyclone Remal will continue to move almost northwards and then north-northeastwards for some more time and will gradually weaken by today morning.”

As soon as Cyclone Remal reaches Bengal, there is heavy rain and strong winds in Kolkata. The process of landslides has started in the coastal areas of Bangladesh and adjacent West Bengal. According to meteorological department officials, the cyclonic storm is likely to continue for four hours.

According to the forecast of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Remal was expected to cross the coast at midnight on Sunday. For this reason, landfall was predicted between Sagar Island in West Bengal and Khepupara in Bangladesh.

Strong winds blowing around the cyclone center

The wind is blowing at a speed of 110-120 km per hour around the cyclone centre. The speed can increase up to 135 km per hour. The outer cloud band is located over the coastal areas of Bangladesh and West Bengal, which may cause heavy rains. An IMD statement late on Sunday night said that the cyclone is under constant monitoring of the Kolkata Doppler weather radar.

The governments of Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Manipur and Mizoram have issued separate advisories and asked the National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force, district administration and other concerned departments to be on maximum alert and prepared to deal with any situation.
