Air India plane flying from Ahmedabad Airport to London's Gatwick Airport crashed soon after takeoff. There were a total of 242 people on board the plane, including the crew. After the accident, a wave of mourning has spread across the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep grief over the incident, calling it “heart-wrenching”. He wrote on Twitter (formerly Twitter), “The tragedy in Ahmedabad has left us shocked and saddened. It cannot be described in words. My thoughts are with all those affected in this hour of grief.”

The Prime Minister further said that he is in constant touch with the ministers and officials who are engaged in relief and rescue work. He has also given instructions to monitor the relief work.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also expressed deep condolences on this accident and said that all possible help will be provided to the affected people.

At present relief and rescue operations are going on and the causes of the accident are being investigated.
