23 August 2023 is very special for India. The Lander Module (LM) of Chandrayaan-3 will land on the lunar surface today evening. As soon as this happens, India will become the first country in the world to reach the south pole of the moon. The lander module consisting of the lander (Vikram) and the rover (Pragyan) will make a soft landing on the south polar region of the Moon at 6:04 pm.
ISRO has informed that the responsibility of landing Chandrayaan-3 has been entrusted to senior woman scientist Dr. Ritu and she is the Mission Director of Chandrayaan-3. The project director of the campaign is P Veera Muthuvel. Prior to this, Dr. Ritu has been the Deputy Operations Director of Mangalyaan and Mission Director in Chandrayaan-2. This time, Chandrayaan-3 does not have an orbiter but a propulsion module, which will act as a communication satellite.

Dr. Ritu Karidhal was born in 1975 in a middle class family of Lucknow. Since childhood, Ritu was interested in the moon, stars and sky. Ritu's hobby was collecting newspaper articles, information and pictures related to ISRO and NASA. He studied BSc and MSc in Physics from Lucknow University. Then joined IISc, Bangalore to pursue a master's degree in aerospace engineering. Dr. Karidhal started working as an engineer in ISRO from November 1997.
