Around 160 flights passing through Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) have been cancelled. New Delhi, Aug 29 (PTI) Delhi airport operator DIAL on Saturday said it has been asked by airlines to cancel around 80 departures and an equal number of domestic flights during three days from September 8 in connection with the G-20 Summit 2023 event. Requests have been received from

During this, Delhi will look like a cantonment amidst unprecedented security arrangements like 26 January and 15 August. These domestic flights may be canceled or postponed due to VVIP movement. It is being told that the Government of India has also issued orders to the airlines companies for this. Meanwhile, the GMR Group-led consortium Delhi International Airport Limited also insisted that the airport has adequate parking space for aircraft during the duration of the summit.

In these three days, the heads of almost every major country of the world or their representatives will be in India. A total of 80 aircraft will neither take off nor return from Delhi airport due to security reasons. This means that there will be no takeoff and no landing.
On the other hand, Dial, the company operating the airport, says that keeping in view the lack of passengers and the strict arrangements made by the traffic police in Delhi these days, it has applied for cancellation of the trips. Most of these air journeys are on routes where fewer passengers travel. No flights are being canceled on busy routes. Assuring a smooth and efficient travel experience for all, DIAL yesterday said that the Indira Gandhi International Airport is fully equipped with adequate parking space during the G20 Summit.

They further added, “We take immense pride in India’s role as the host of the G20 Summit 2023. Current news on cancellations of flights has no linkage to the parking of aircraft. We have already provided required parking”. Significantly, Delhi’s IGI Airport is the busiest airport in the country. From where 2 lakh people travel daily.

The G20 Summit will be held in the national capital on September 9 (Saturday) and 10 (Sunday). Those who unaware, all schools in the national capital, Delhi government and Municipal Corporation of Delhi offices will remain closed for three days on the account of the G20 Summit. The Supreme Court also issued a circular on Friday stating that it will remain closed on September 8 in view of the G20 Summit in the national capital.
